The Black Pepper Restaurant in Lilongwe has been in the making for quite some time. A story of how fate brought about one of the best new start up restaurants in Lilongwe.
Founder Aretha Thorncroft’s brainchild, which all started from the point of her first part time job after completing high school, was at Red Pepper which was owned by her two aunts and Grandma.
Although Aretha wasn’t sure at the time that she’d stick to the industry as she left for the UK which also lead her into the service industry as a waitress/bar tender/kitchen assistant.
Eventually a decision was made to take it further by studying hospitality Management at the International Hotel school in Cape town where she was placed first at Lagoon beach hotel then Le Franshoek Hotel and spa..
“It was here that my passion for service and food grew as i learnt so much more about customer service and going the extra mile to watching and learning about different foods and textures. We truly had a great team of managers and Chefs who taught us so much and to them i am ever grateful”.
The experience then took Aretha to Abu Dhabi where she worked at the Shangrila Hotel. The experience was extra special as it’s where she learnt to fine tune her service experience and truly understand how to provide 5 star service.
“It has been my dream to own my own place with great food and most of all great service as i believe service can either make or break your business”.
